In these photos is an original gold coin that belonged to a Chinese pastor who willed it to a Chinese university. The pastor of the university asked me to examine the coin in his possession because of my extensive study in numismatics (the study or collection of money, coins, and often medals). The image on the coin I have determined is that of the Roman Emperor Domitian who lived around 81 – 96 A.D. the last Flavian emperor to follow the infamous Emperor Nero.

From information provided by About.com: “Domitian was paranoid about conspiracies. He developed new tortures and harassed philosophers and Jews. He had vestal virgins executed or buried alive on charges of immorality. After he impregnated his niece, he insisted she have an abortion and then, when she died as a result, he deified her. He executed officials who opposed his policies and confiscated their property.”
